Sattotal now works in Mauritius

Country 51, and the highest income per head in Africa. It arrives with the rupee, 15% VAT and the district filling itself in from the postcode — but what a Mauritian workshop really needs is an article of the Civil Code that almost nobody quotes correctly.

Mauritius can now be selected as your organisation country, bringing Sattotal to 51 countries. Choosing it switches the tax (VAT at 15%), the currency (Mauritian rupee, Rs), the tax identifier label (VAT No.) and the legislation cited on the documents your customer signs — which there is not a consumer statute but the Code Civil Mauricien.

The period for claiming a hidden defect in Mauritius is NOT two years. Article 1648 of the Code Civil Mauricien still requires the action to be brought «dans un bref délai», judged by the nature of the defect and local usage — with no figure attached. France replaced that wording with a fixed two-year period in 2005; Mauritius never adopted the reform. Anyone quoting you two years is quoting French law, not Mauritian.

What a Mauritian repair shop needs to get right

1

Two numbers on every invoice

Article 20 of the Value Added Tax Act 1998 requires an invoice to carry the words «VAT INVOICE» prominently and to state the name, business address, VAT Registration Number and Business Registration Number. They are two numbers from two different bodies: the first issued by the MRA, the second by the Corporate and Business Registration Department. Sattotal prints both.

2

The repair is a louage d’ouvrage

Article 1710 defines the contract by which one party undertakes to do something for another for an agreed price, and article 1779 names technicians expressly. A repairer supplying only labour answers for its own fault (art. 1789), and answers in all cases for the acts of the people it employs (art. 1797).

3

Hold it, but never sell it

Article 1948 allows a person holding goods on deposit to retain them until full payment of what is due in respect of that deposit. It is a defensive right: it confers no power of sale, so an uncollected device may not be sold and recovery means going to court.

And a detail that saves time at the counter: the district fills itself in. The first character of a Mauritian postcode identifies the district when it is a digit (1 is Port Louis, 9 Rivière Noire) and the island when it is a letter (R for Rodrigues, A for Agaléga). Type 11324 and the field says Port Louis. It is the first African country in the catalogue where that autofill is reliable.
