Sattotal now works in Cameroon
Country 55, and the third in the OHADA space. It brings the most demanding obligation in the catalogue for a repair shop — and it forces the disclaimer to be rewritten, because there that document is worth nothing.
Cameroon can now be picked as your organisation's country, taking Sattotal to 55 countries. Choosing it switches the tax (19.25% VAT), the currency (the Central African CFA franc, which is not the same as Senegal's despite the name), the tax identifier label (NIU), the address dropdown with the ten regions, and the legislation quoted on your documents. The postal code field disappears, because the country works by post box: «BP 1234 Douala».
Section 35 of Framework Law No. 2011/012 states that any clause excluding or limiting liability, and any clause reducing the scope of the warranty, is VOID. In plain terms: the disclaimer a repair shop asks customers to sign — the one that says “we accept no responsibility for…” — is worth nothing in Cameroon. That is why Sattotal's Cameroonian document is written as a written record instead: what was declared, what the customer was told and what they authorised. That does have effect, all the more so because section 28 puts the burden of proof on the shop, not on the customer.
What Cameroonian law requires of you
Fifteen days, and a replacement device
When the customer claims under the warranty and the device has to come back in, section 31(4) limits that repair to fifteen days and requires you to give them a replacement device for the duration. If you cannot, the matter is settled by negotiated damages. Note the scope: this is the repair owed under the warranty, not every paid job over the counter.
Documents in French and English
Section 6(1) requires standard-form and adhesion contracts to be drawn up in both official languages, in visible and legible characters, and section 6(3) that each party keeps a copy. Cameroon is the only country in the catalogue whose legal texts come out bilingual — which matters particularly in Bamenda and Buea.
Re-conditioned parts must be declared
Section 11 requires any second-hand, re-conditioned or repaired part to be stated “expressly, clearly and separately” on the invoice or receipt. This is not a best-practice suggestion: it is in the Act.
The rest is inherited from Senegal and Ivory Coast, which was the point of entering OHADA: the Uniform Acts are identical across all 17 member states. Article 59 requires the RCCM number on commercial documents — separate from the NIU tax number, and here in the form RC/DLA/2021/B/1234 — and articles 67 to 70 let you hold the device until you are paid and, where storage costs exceed its value, ask a judge to authorise a sale with the proceeds paid into court.
