Sattotal now works in Cyprus and Malta

Two new countries, and not just two more entries in a dropdown: each arrives with its own tax rate, its own tax identifier and legal documents written on the law that actually applies.

Cyprus and Malta can now be selected as your organisation’s country, bringing Sattotal to 46. For a repair shop in Valletta or Sliema this matters in a specific way: Malta is in the eurozone and charges 18% VAT, so British settings would have been wrong on both counts.

What each country brings

1

Malta — 18% VAT and the euro

Malta has the lowest standard VAT rate in the European Union at 18%, and works in euros, not pounds. The identifier is the VAT Registration Number, which belongs to a business: a Maltese individual is never asked for one, as with the UK.

2

Cyprus — 19% ΦΠΑ and the ΑΦΤ

The Cypriot standard rate is 19%, not the 24% used in Greece, and the identifier is the ΑΦΤ issued by the Tax Department. Type the postcode and the district fills itself in: its first digit identifies it.

Malta’s guarantee, terms and privacy texts cite the Consumer Affairs Act (Cap. 378), under which the seller is liable for any lack of conformity appearing within two years of delivery, and the Maltese Civil Code, which grants a repairer the right to retain a device until payment. They are written on Maltese law, not on the UK statutes the language might suggest.

Invoicing and the point of sale are available in both countries: neither Cyprus nor Malta mandates business-to-business e-invoicing, so an ordinary invoice remains valid.

To switch it on, go to Settings → Organisation and pick the country. Tax, currency, the tax identifier label and the legal texts adjust on their own, and you can always edit them under Settings → Documents.
